Soft Space Florrie James

2—6pm, Sunday 21 May 2017

A discussion event about film production and making films that sit within non-exploitative, non-hierarchical, feminist, anti-copyright contexts.

Florrie James will present recent research and experiments in film production. She will show the development of a narrative feature film she is currently working on with writer and musician Sam Bellacosa called 4 Day Weekend Underground which involves a large amount of improvised film production.

By analysing extracts from film-makers manifestos, including statements from Humberto Solás’ Cinema Povre manifesto; Mierle Laderman Ukeles’ Manifesto for Maintenance Art; Maya Deren’s writings about film and noise musician Mattin’s two books, Unconstituted Praxis and Noise and Capitalism, the group will explore what it might take to make a film that sits firmly within a structure of communally inhabited explorative space rather than existing purely as an individualist art object.

Soft Space is an event series offering artists and participants a space to reflect, discuss and experiment, from amongst and within
process, rather than about or around it.

This event is free to attend, however places are limited. Please email info@rhubaba.org if you would like to come along and to reserve a place. Food and refreshments will be provided.
