Rhubaba is pleased to present SKEEN NITE TOO (COME), a evening of performances and film by artist group and performance fiction Plastique Fantastique, featuring collaborations with Benedict Drew and 0(rphan)d(rift>).

For SKEEN NITE TOO (COME), Plastique Fantastique will screen Green Skeen, a film made with artist group 0(rphan)d(rift>), followed by The Seed Archive Breakout and the Groundogging of Elon Musk and Fire Rhythm with Benedict Drew, who will also perform a solo work, Dancing Queen.

Plastique Fantastique’s audio visual practice takes the form of immersive performances and sonic fictions that employ song, drone, masks, objects and film projection. The group also produce texts, installations, comics, shrines and assemblages to investigate aesthetics, popular culture and politics. Often employing sacred and ritualistic elements as well as medieval forms such as mumming plays, their work explores the accelerations of technology and capitalism and the place of embodiment and disembodied agents in contemporary culture. Referring to their work as a ‘mythopoetic fiction’, their collaborative performances have commonly explored themes of cyber technology, integrating AI, avatars, bitcoin, meme theory and feedback loops.

Plastique Fantastique were formed in 2004 following the exhibition New Life, a touring exhibition and book by David Burrows containing the First Manifesto of Guerilla Plastique Fantastique: On Baroque Practice by Simon O’Sullivan.

Recent exhibitions include Shonky, Hayward Touring Show, MAC Belfast, DCA Dundee and Bury Art Gallery 2017-18, They Call Us Screamers, TULCA Art Festival, Galway 2017 and NeON Digital Art Festival Dundee 2017.

For SKEEN NITE TOO (COME), Plastique Fantastique is composed of David Burrows, Simon O’Sullivan, Vanessa Page, Alex Marzeta, Mark Jackson and Motsonian

Recently, two members of the group, Burrows and O’Sullivan, published Fictioning: The Myth Functions of Contemporary Art and Philosophy with Edinburgh University Press.

Benedict Drew makes art and music that reflects on society’s ambivalent relationship with technology. The Whistable-based artist has shown widely, most notably at the The Whitechapel Gallery London 2017 and the British Art Show 8 2015.

0(rphan)d(rift>) is an artistic entity known for immersive and visually complex works that use the sample and the remix extensively, treating information as matter and the image as a unit of contagion. Recent exhibitions include Cat Ice Trickster at Corsica Studios 2017 and Matter Fictions at Berardo Muesum Lisbon 2016.
